Ed Ando guest gardening columnist

Ed's Philosophy is "Stop and Smell the Roses"

A gardening column penned by Buellton resident Ed Ando begins today on the web site. (Ed and his wife Shirley still are gardening - land all food crops and flowers with no grass to mow.  They around the 70-80 years now and still growing for our neighbors and friends.)

With spring just around the corner, Ando begins the gardening year with the last of the winter chores, and offers suggestions for getting a head start on summer's garden bounty.

Ed and wife Shirley moved to the Valley about 40 years ago and raised their family here.

After retiring from a job at Lake Cachuma, Ed Ando sold his produce at area farmers markets for a while before starting his own Farmers Market in Buellton, which operated from 1993 to 1997, then he helped with the Farmers Market in Solvang for years.

In May 2003 I visited Ed  and took some new photos of the fresh garden that he had just planted.  Here they are for your enjoyment.

June 2008 found these treats to share with you.  Photos click here.

Photo Gallery June 2008.  Cherries, Green plums, Saturn Peaches, Pink Roses, & the Garden as it would look in June.  Last photo shows the Tomatoes Ed planted for the neighbors to stop and pick one for dinner.  The lone zuccinni plant is what feeds the whole neighborhood.
