The name "Elverhoj" (pronounced Elverhoy) was taken from Denmark's most
famous folk play, "Elverhoj," written in 1828 and still performed.
Translated as "elves on a hill" the story involves a king's visit to the
night world of the dancing female wood spirits.
Brandt-Erichsen's Dream: Former residence of one of Solvang's most artistic
families is now a community museum devoted to the Danish American pioneer spirit and the
colorful heritage of Denmark.
In 1950 the Brandt-Erichsen's built the remarkable structure that became their home, in
a style derived from the large farmhouses of 18th century Jutland, northern Denmark.
Many details of the bindingsvaerk style are incorporated.
