Court Yard

A special feature is the beautifully planted Mary Davidge Courtyard.   Outdoor exhibits include Chumash stone implements, geological displays, a chuck wagon, and the old wooden jail house used by the town of Santa Ynez from 1883 to 1915.   Visitors are invited to sit awhile and enjoy the fountain.  The courtyard with its shady arbor makes a perfect setting for group gatherings and that special photo.

INDIAN ROOM

Highlight of this room is the extensive Goodwin Collection containing baskets, pottery beadwork, porcupine quill work, and weaving from 25 North American tribes.  Also on display are rare Chumash baskets as well as stone ollas, mortars, pestles, and shell bead money.  A diorama depicts the pre-mission daily life of the Chumash.

Exhibits in this room depict life on the numerous old-time ranches in the Santa Ynez Valley.  On display are cattle brands as well as Western and Mexican saddles, bits, reatas, branding irons, a barbed wire collection, early guns, and ranching gear.  Also on view are beautiful artifacts from Old Mission Santa Inés.
