APPLE BROWN BETTY
- 5 TBS melted butter
- 2 cup homemade dry bread crumbs
- 5 cup peeled, sliced tart apples
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 1/2 tsp. cinnamon
- Grated rind and juice of 1/2 lemon
- 1/3 cup hot water
- Heavy cream
|If your apples are full of flavor you
won't need the lemon. Serve with heavy cream (can whip for whipped cream)
Preheat the oven to 350 degree F. Butter a 1 1/2-quart casserole or baking
dish, preferably one with a lid. Toss the melted butter and crumbs together lightly
in a bowl. Spread about a third of the crumbs in the baking dish. Toss the
apples, sugar, cinnamon, and lemon rind & juice together in a bowl. Spread 1/2
the apple mixture over the crumbs, add another layer of crumbs, a layer of the remaining
apples, and a final layer of crumbs on top. Add the hot water, cover with a lid or
foil and bake for 25 min. Uncover and bake 20 minutes more.
