*Best wishes to Neil Thompson (Gear Grinders) who is
scheduled for surgery. (J. Underwood)
*Harry Breck Jr, known affectionately to all of us as
Yankie Breck, passed away on Monday,
November 14, 2005. He was born in 1935. Injured in a racing
accident, Yankie was confined
to a wheelchair, but his spirit always was free. One of the most
congenial and pleasant of people,
he never let his infirmnity change his wonderful spirit. A good
friend with Jack Mendenhall and
a long time resident of the Santa Barbara area, Yankie will be
greatly missed by all of his friends,
family and neighbors. The following comes from
www.oilstick.com;
"Yankie passed away Monday morning, 11/14/2005, on his
seventieth birthday. This
Thursday, Nov 17th, there will be a viewing at Welch-Ryce-Haider
funeral chapel,
located at 15 East Sola Street in Santa Barbara, beginning at
8 AM-9:30 AM. At 10
AM there will be a service at Our Lady of Sorrows Church located
just down the
street at 21 East Sola Street. Yankie will then be taken to the
Santa Barbara
Cemetery, off of Channel Drive in Montecito, to be laid to rest
next to his father,
Harry Breck Sr. With heavy heart,
Cynthi Bacon."

*The 2005 IAMA awards announced that my “FUEL FOR THOUGHT”
column trouncing the
FIA on behalf of land speed racers worldwide has earned GOLD
recognition. This is the very
same column that was awarded the James T. Valentine Award
by the Society of Automotive
Historians earlier this year. Further, the Gold Coast
Racing and Roadster Club shares the
SILVER honor with me for the 2004 total design of the Dry Lakes
Racing Hall of Fame program
that unfolds at the GAS-UP each year. The purpose of the
International Automotive Media
Awards (IAMA) is to recognize and encourage excellence in
all forms of automotive media. Jud-
ging is by peers, to a standard; entries may earn up to 100
points. The Foundation IAMAs,
Bronze (85-91), Silver (92-96) and Gold (97-100) medallions, are
presented for those works so
qualified. If no entry in a category meets the minimum standards
no award will be made in that
category. E-20, Commentary -- Gold to Louise Ann Noeth,
for “What’s an FIA Land Speed
Record Worth?” -- Goodguys Gazette. F-40, Design: Total
Publication--Silver to Louise Ann
Noeth, 2004 Dry Lakes Racing Hall of Fame
program. This is a very tough competition – the
judges don’t bother with you unless your work earns a minimum of
85 points – so I am very
pleased that my assault on the FIA has once more made an
impression outside of the sport. Of
course I live in delusional hope the FIA will stand up and do
right by the land speed racer, but
until then it is my pleasure to focus a very harsh light on their
shameful shenanigans. I accept the
GOLD on behalf of all land speed racers who tirelessly toil with
hopeful dreams of speed and
look forward to the day when the FIA learns to respect your
efforts. In closing, if you wish to
review the aforementioned FUEL FOR THOUGHT, you’ll find it on the
home page of my web-
site. Speedy Regards, "LandSpeed" Louise Ann Noeth www.landspeedproductions.biz
