out at El Mirage Dry Lake in Southern California where the SCTA
conducts their car land speed
trials. Water on the dry lake helps to keep the surface smooth,
but the rains came early this year
and the October meet had to be cancelled. The two day November
meet is also in jeopardy of
being cancelled unless the weather changes and we get some hot,
sunny, windy California days.

*Wally Parks NHRA Motorsports Museum Wed, Nov 2 Twilight Cruise Night from 4-8pm,
free admission to the Museum. The final Cruise
Night of 2005 will take place on Wed, Dec 7
and will feature the annual Toy Drive and a special
presentation to NHRA founder Wally Parks,
a reproduced version of his original '29 Ford Model
A on '32 Ford rails roadster. Friday, Nov
4, Night of Champions; The semi-annual event honors
drag racing champions, both current and
former, and lets out of town fans enjoy the Parks
Museum during extended hours. Admission is
free, and the event runs from 5-10pm. Oct. 22, 2005 - Jan. 15, 2006: Track Roadster Exhibit,
Museum patrons can enjoy the recently opened Museum
track exhibit, "Track Roadsters: The
Road to Indy," which details the history of the dirt
track racing-era which spanned four decades
from the 1920s through the 1960s. The exhibit runs
through Jan. 15, 2006, in the Museum's
special exhibit hall and features several historic
track roadsters, a dirt-track diorama, street road-
sters based on track roadster styling, as well as

drag racer Ray Moore of Santa
Paula was critically injured Saturday during the
Goodguys Fuel
and Gas Championships at Auto Club Famoso Raceway
Saturday. He later died from his injuries
at 10:46 p.m. at Kern Medical Center, according to
a Sheriff's Department release. Moore, 76,
according to the release, was making a qualifying
run in his 1967 Camaro in C/Gas competition
in the left lane when his car suddenly veered to
the right just past the 330-foot mark. The car
plowed into the right concrete retaining wall at a
sharp angle, bounced off and spun down the
track, coming to rest at about the 800-foot mark.
The accident happened right behind Ray
Padgett, who was just ahead of
Moore at the 330-foot mark. The accident happened
shortly
after 4 p.m. and paramedics worked on Moore while
the track safety crew cut apart the car.
Moore was placed inside a paramedic unit, stabilized, then flown by helicopter to Kern Medical
Center. Cars in the C/Gas class are designed to
run though the quarter mile in 9.60 seconds with
top speeds in the 135-145 mph range. The last
major accident at the track came in March, 2003
when Top Fuel driver Gerry Steiner

Awards Banquet 3/11/06, Joe's Garage, Tustin,
CA. The Fire
Danger at the Lake is downgraded to stage 1, fires
are permitted in containers. There is a new
BLM ranger to replace Gina, named Larry
Blaine. The El Mirage Christmas party will
be held
at the Community Center on December 18th. They'd
welcome new, unwrapped toys to help
provide gifts for the local kids. They can be dropped off at the ranger station anytime before Dec
18. The SCTA mobile home is ready to be moved. The
total projected cost of the project is
$256,000 which is a total figure including the
well, gas, etc. There was a problem in the Sept
meet. During the second round Mike
Ferguson who uses a battery pack in the
back of his truck
to start his car. After the car was started and
had left, the next car in line pushed up next to the
truck still in line. When the truck left the line
it hit the car beside it. This had happened to
Doug
Robinson with a car on the
street, and he said that the car that is moving is
the one at fault. After
some discussion, it was agreed to let the clubs
know about the incident, as a reminder to follow
the starting orders, and to be courteous in line.
There was further discussion about the HANS
devices. Some cars and drivers are not able to use
them. Mike Cook has both a HANS and
a
HUTCHES Device if anyone would like to try the fit
in their cars. Dan Warner reminded
the
committee that the open period for rule changes
ends Oct 15. He also mentioned that anyone
can make proposals to the committee all race
season long. The form is available on the website,
or by calling the SCTA office to request one.
Robert Nichols showed a T-Shirt
with the Burt
Munroe's 1921 Indian that went
197mph on it, and has them for $15 for anyone who
would
like to have one. Les Leggett is
working on a photo documentary project, and he
welcomes
any assistance: especially if anyone can help
identify vintage Bonneville vehicles. Jack
Underwood brought up the Lindsley
Trophy, and a committee was formed of Richard, Jack,
and Bob Webb, who will meet
separately to set the design. A new design for
T-shirts was
discussed, and also a vote was taken to see how
many members are interested in a new GG
Jacket. Judy Sights is heading
up the Rule Book Advertising again; please contact
her if you
are interested in placing an advertisement in the
2006 Rule/Record Book. The cost will be the

Attempt Car has just returned home from
being on
display at Edwards AFB’s
Open House and four days of testing systems and a
run on
Rogers Dry Lake. Despite some difficulties
with the new hydraulic system (we were dealing
with air in the lines and having to bleed
them) and burning up some wiring and replacing
them, along with a last day of uncooperative
weather, we managed to meet all of our
objectives even if we got only one run in of
about 250 MPH before the wind got too strong
to be safe. While it may seem like this
project is taking a long time to get to the point
of
going for the record, it’s important to
realize that this is a completely volunteer team
of
men and women, as well as donations of both
equipment and materials, and in-kind
services that have gotten this project where
it is today. When we land a financial backer,
things will change dramatically to
accelerate our shot at the record. (Jon

FLOCK'S LEAD DOWN TO 7! The battle for the 2005
USAC Western Midget Car Series
Championship will come down to the Turkey Night Grand Prix finale Nov 24. Four-time
champion Robby Flock holds a
slim seven-point lead over 2004 series runner-up
Jerome
Rodela following Saturday
night's penultimate race in Tucson, Ariz. Rodela
finished third and
Flock ninth at Tucson, setting up the showdown
at Irwindale (Calif) Speedway on Thanks-
giving. Brad Kuhn of Avon,
Ind. won the 30-lap feature at USA Race Park in
Tucson. Kuhn
trailed Ron Gregory for 17
laps, then led the last 13 in his Westin
Homes/Magnum Axle
Company Stealth/Stanton Mopar. Fast qualifier
Jerry Coons Jr. finished second,
while Rodela
was third, Gregory fourth and Chad Boat
fifth. The victory was the first in USAC's
Western
Series for Kuhn, who enjoys a wide margin in the
independently-conducted "National Midget
